Fox Family

Welcome to the beginning of my Fox diary.

We noticed this little fella on one of our security camera feeds. Little did I know how cool it was going to be to coexist with a fox family.

I have always grown up with wildlife around my home as a child. Down the street from my families home, was a land reserve with numerous wild animals; buffalos, deer, elk, etc. Once the property was redeveloped wildlife began to drift into the neighborhoods surrounding the area. It became more and more common to see critters, which in the past we never really seen in our neighborhood before.

When I was reviewing video from one of our security cameras, I observed this fox wandering around our property. Over the next few days it was determined that a family of them are living someplace on my property. It wasn’t for several weeks that I discovered they were living under one of our outbuildings and had babies.

The original camera clip which I seem to not be able to find now on the NVR, captured a group of 4-5 of them in one shot. One of the clips showed what appeared to be in intimate activity between two of the foxes.

It is totally common to see him/her hanging out on the property. Always ready for a photoshoot. – Jan 19, 2021 3:47PM

Noticing this fox more and more, made me decide to begin setting up wireless “covert” cameras around the property to hopefully capture some cool video shots. These fully battery powered rechargeable cameras, are able to detect motion and turn on, begin recording, then save to the cloud for later review. Since they are battery powered, occasionally I will miss a full recording since they are limited at recording in 20 second intervals.

Things began to really get cool once the video from these cameras began to accumulate on my server.

Above you can see a clip captured by one of the two cameras currently watching over the family. In the clip you can see something spook Momma fox. She seems to be very skittish and one of her pups also seem to follow in her worried lifestyle.

Although this is not unwarranted. While enjoying a night in my hot tub I was able to see one of the parent foxes roaming around my yard. Yes they are that comfortable with us, and a owl swooped down towards him/her. The fox took off into a wooded area. In early days I was able to see a total of 4 pups. Now it appears that maybe 2 pups may have been taken away by the coyote. This coyote can be seen on camera occasionally roaming the property and even chasing momma fox.

As you are able to see she is not worried about humans. Very friendly and non threatening. Although, we do not plan to invite them into our home anytime soon.

Tau can’t help pull video clips so this takes me time to extract, but I will try to post clips that are really interesting. Hopefully soon he can help.
